Our Training
There are two strands to our training provision:
- Awareness raising: what do prisoners’ families experience?
- Practical information: how can agencies best meet the families’ needs?
Awareness Training
This day is a mix of listening to interviews of people telling their stories, discussion, group exercises and role play. We keep you active and involved throughout!
Topics covered include:- Visits to prison
- Domestic violence
- Social isolation
- Health problems
- Effects on children
- Accommodation issues
Practical training
By the end of this day you will feel more confident about how you can support clients with a close relative in prison.
Topics covered include:- Other agencies supporting families of prisoners and what they offer.
- Effective signposting.
- Key partners you can work with in the criminal justice system.
- Setting up a local network of support.
Training groups
Training can be delivered to multi-agency groups, allowing participants to learn more about other support agencies and make those vital links which can lead to an effective local support network. Or it can be tailored to specific agencies, focussing on their role in supporting families of prisoners.
Cost
Across the south west
We charge £700 per day exclusive of VAT. For that we provide two trainers and the training resources. It does not include recruitment of participants, the venue or refreshments.
Nationally
Outside the south west region we would negotiate our charge to cover the additional costs of our travel and accommodation. In some cases we may be able to subsidise training costs. It is always worth ringing us to discuss your ideas.
